교과목개요
This course is intended to let students understand how stretches of language are meaningful and coherent in written and spoken discourse, a primary key to successful communication. To this end, not only does it provide students with the theories of discourse analysis and pragmatics but it also demonstrates their social, practical adequacies by applying them to language teaching and learning.
교수목표
1. To help students develop their reading ability by understanding cohesive devices and general
characteristics of discourse
2. To let students build their ability to heighten coherence in discourse, spoken or written, by understanding
speech act theory and conversational principles.
3. To make students understand how and why coherence can be maintained in spoken or written texts with no
cohesive devices
4. To provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate their presentation skills
주요 학습내용 및 수업진행방법
1. 과목이 다소 생소함을 감안하여 담당교수의 우리말 저서를 일부 예습 및 과제물로 활용하며, 실제 수업은 주로
영문 원서 교재를 사용한다.
2. 고학년이라 주어진 분야를 제대로 이해하고 조리있게 발표하는 능력도 중요하여, 개인별 발표를 적극 활용한다.
3. 수강생들이 취업을 앞 둔 4학년생임을 고려하여 어휘 및 독해 능력 향상을 염두에 두고 수업을 진행한다.
4. 원어강의 수업을 지향하며, 중간 및 기말고사 답안 작성도 영어 작성을 적극 권장한다.

Mid-term Exam: 25% (On-line Open-Book Test)
Final Exam: 35%
Assignment and Attendance : 10%
Presentation in Class: 30%
