교과목개요
The purpose of this course is to teach the students majoring in materials engineering
fundamentThe al principles of general chemistry : atoms, molecules and ions, calculations with chemical formulas and equations, aqueous reactions and solution stoichiometry, thermochemistry, electronic structure of atoms, periodic properties of elements, basic concepts of chemical bonding, molecular geometry and bonding theories, and gases. These principles give a largely macroscopic, phenomenological view of chemistry. These concepts provide necessary background for many of the laboratory experiments. Early introduction to thermochemistry is desirable because so much of our understanding of chemical processes is based on considerations of energy changes. Thermochemistry is also important when we come to a discussion of bond enthalpies. Emphasis has been on imparting conceptual understanding, as opposed to presenting equations into which students are supposed to plug numbers. Chemistry played an important role in modern civilized life. The students need help to develop these perspectives. I will stress the unique importance of chemistry as a science and an essential part of modern technology. This course provides the background to study further major courses in materials engineering.
